Unit 2:The Assignment: Click to see the PDF (@ KES Only)! You should work to the AQA Analysis.
The file for Task 2 is also available (@KES Only). This is presently a csv, as I await a reply from AQA as to whether it can be converted to Access!
The above "lessons" probably show all the skills needed for carrying out the work. If you cannot do a specfic aspect that is not shown in the lessons you should ask your teacher, who will then create an additional "class" lesson.
Under this specification the school is not permitted to give you a Word Template on how to prepare your work. However you are strongly advised to set it out as in this example. To help watch the lessons in Word 2007(c) on Tables (first 3) and last 2 on Headers / Footers and table of Contents. To ensure the work is completed on time each lesson will focus on an aspect of the controlled assessment. Homework: You cannot actually do the whole of the controlled assessment at home. What you can do at home is research (problem & software), experiment and build prototypes. This should mean that you can carryout the work in class quickly and effectively. This homework applies to the end of the Unit. The Unit will last 14 School Weeks or 35 periods!
Jan 5: Implmentation & Testing: Continue with build your planned Interactive Presentation based on your detailed Design: Screenshot and describe the Key stages within Word. You should follow exactly your designs. If your designs are not detailed or accurate enough then amend your design. Carry out the tests as in the standard analysis - screenshot this and the results. If you have any errors they should be corrected - again screenshot and describe these developments, then retest.14/35
Jan 11/12: Evaluation: Copy and paste the PC's into a Word table (similar to Design) with 2 Extra Columns (Centre: Where is the evidence that this has been met / achieved? and Right: Discuss if improvements are possible.). Answer for as many (all?) that you can. For at least 4 discuss enhancements in depth. 16/35. Additional Theory Homework. Jan 4-12: Read this 01 Data Collection.
Jan 17/18/19: Catch Up! Complete all parts of the Interactive Presentation. 18/35. Check the sample Design Version1. + Version2 + Sample TestPlan. Testing & Eval will appear on the website soon. These are based on the 2011 Anna's Driving School problem.
Additional Theory Homework. Jan 18-27: Read 02 Data Entry.
Jan 25/26: Information System Task: 1. Ensure all the data is in Access (from last term Convert this CSV file.(<See Access 2007b Lesson 13). Screenshot and describe the Key stages.
2.
Start on the "What" part of the formal Design of the Proposed queries / Reports / Forms (see Example of Database Design layout). Add Design of Database Tables to your write up). Also view this Sample Work < look at the Design Section (pages 17-31) though an Entity relationship page 33 should come first!).
3.
Prototype / experiment with Queries, Reports / Forms to solve the problems posed - bear in mind the AQA PC's. 20/35. Homework for this week and next - complete the Interactive Presentation task!
Jan 31/ Feb 1/2: Design Why: Your design plans - sketched and scanned or created in software other then Access for your system should be added to your Word document write up file. Now add Reasons & Choices (linked to AQA PC's KES only!)) for your design. This is best done as a table, where you copy and paste in the AQA PC's, add a column to the right and say why your design plans above meet each of these. (More advice on Page 4 of the booklet KES only!). Now Implementation: Build your planned System based on your detailed Design: Screenshot and describe the Key stages within Word. You should follow exactly your designs. If your designs are not detailed or accurate enough then amend your design. (More advice on Page 4 of the booklet KES Only). A pdf version of your write up must be stored in Hand in (this is for internal grades!) 23/35. Homework as last week - complete Interactive Presentation task.
Extra: You should watch this Access lesson for help with setting up the Query / Report for Testing!
Feb 8/9: Testing: Carry out the tests you have been asked to do, you may add to the tests, but must include the ones you have been asked to do! (see booklet page 5 > R:/Subjects/InfoTech/Year10GCSE/AQA11-CB.pdf). All Students will be asked to submit a single PDF file of their work (Watch PDF Create Lesson). The file should be copied to the Hand in area @ KES> R:/Subjects/InfoTech/Handin/GCSE10/. 25/35
Feb 21/22/23: Evaluation: Copy and paste the PC's into a Word table (similar to Design) with 2 Extra Columns (Centre: Where is the evidence that this has been met / achieved? and Right: Discuss if improvements are possible.). Answer for as many (all?) that you can. For at least 4 discuss enhancements in depth. 28/35
Feb 29/Mar 1: You have been asked to write a Report. Research and write this for both the Interactive Presentation and Database. See pages 5 / 10 / 12 and 15 of the booklet. 30/35
Mar 6/7/8: If you have not linked your Database to your Interactive Presentation - Watch this Demo (lesson 38). If your write up is in a single Word file you can use an automatic system to create a Table of Contents < Watch this lesson. Catch Up! There is also a Checklist available (@KES Only) You should submit your write up as a single file (ideally pdf, but Word will do). You can submit your Database, Spreadsheet and Interactive Presentation (in a folder). All Work should have the filename / Folder name...in the format... SurnameForename. You should complete and hand in a paper copy of the Submission Tick List. 33/35
Mar 14: Catch Up! 34/35 - To help you with the Evaluation where you have to suggest improvments you should have a look at a database and Interactive Presentation for a similar task. Copy this @KES Folder to the root of your P drive for it to work.
Mar 15: Organise and update work to Handin>GCSE10! 35/35
Between the start of Thursday’s lesson (Mar 17 - 1355) and the start of the next lesson Tuesday 22nd March (1500) you need to electronically “hand in” a single PDF (or Word file) of all of your Work. This should include the Design / Implementation / Testing / Self Evaluation and Report for both the Interactive Presentation and Database Task. In addition the Implementation of the Spreadsheet task should be complete. The 2 Reports (Viewing the Interactive Presentation on Mobiles and Further useful lists from Database) should be researched and written up in your own words < you my quote from other Interactive Presentations) should also be present. There is a “method” that allows you to add to or modify your work after the submission date. To do this you print out the pages yourself and slot them into a special Wallet folder! Additions within existing page numbers should be labelled as (for example) Page 22a then 22b then 22c. Of course, work that continues after the handed in end can just have the next page number. This process can continue upto the end of term.
Mar 20/21/22: This week you must write 4 paragraphs. This involves looking at the Alternative Solutions produced for the Interactive Presentation and Database. You must add your Database to this folder and Copy your Interactive Presentation folder to here. Now take someone else's Database (hopefully with ideas that may have improved your soln) from this folder. Copy the file or Interactive Presentation folder to your P drive - explore the solution. Write a paragraph on how well it matches the AQA PC's in terms of its effectiveness. Bear in mind this is an evaluation of how others have created a solution to the same problem. Write a 2nd paragraph on any ideas from this other students solution that could be used to improve your Database. Then repeat for a 3rd (Interactive Presentation compare to AQA PC's) and 4th (Interactive Presentation ideas that would work in your solution) paragraph but this time for the Interactive Presentation. See Section 7 on Page 5 of the booklet. There is a partial example here (@KES Only).
