Controlled Assessment

Feb 21- Mar 15: Everything Database related... This is where you can show skills and deep thinking which will be key for a top grade. Do read the evaluation section so you know what you really need, that is the "*" points at the bottom of this web page!

1. Data Entry from reply sheets (there maybe a variety of these - deposit / permission / request for extras / final payment / reminders) should be entered into your database.

2. Data for letters to be mailmerged. Letter requesting deposit and optional extras, Letter requesting final payment (with the actual balance stated - given all the optional extras) , Letter stating the the final payment is still / over due!

3. Lists: The key advantage to storing all of the updated information is so that the various lists can be quickly and accurately produced? How many lists - which lists??? You need to speak to the teacher in charge of the trip. In general the list could / may include... list of those who have asked for the letter, list of all those who have paid the deposit, list of all those who have requested extra items - like lunch or optional extras, list of all those who have paid the balance, list of all those who have not paid the balance. List of all pupils with their medical or other special needs. List of just those pupils with medical or other needs - like a cooked or packed lunch. Emergency contact details. Registar to be taken when the trip leaves / returns and at other key points (after a motorway stop). The system can also produce the "Totals", like the total number who have not paid the balance. The total amount of the deposits so far paid. For each lists you need to select which fields to output (each list may well have a different selection of fields). Do you print on Portrait or Landscape paper (the latter is more useful if a lot of fields are needed. What order is the list in (Sorting) - this can be on more than one field. For example the missing balances could be both a letter home and a email of the report to the form teacher - this list might be in form order of form then surname and chosen name.

4. Operational: How easy is the system to use? Could a Menu system with a switchboard make it easier to navigate around the various options?

Mar 19 - End of term: Sections 2f/2g/2h: Report & Evaluation of your solution and of others' use of ICT....
Produce a report for the Headteacher. This will need to include all the results which are needed by the organiser (printouts). Secondly you must evaluate your solution, that is, do the ICT solutions you provide meet the needs of the organiser and do the job intended? Evaluate the success of your ICT solutions and the way in which other people have (or could have) contributed. If there are better ways, do discuss them at this point!

* How well does the system collect the information in - are support staff used or is it captured electronically?
* How well does your system process the collected information and reformat it in an appropriate form to be useful to the teachers who are running the trip?
* How well does the model that calculates the cost to students who are going on the visit pay work for this year &next year?
* How accurately and effeciently do you gather information about students who are planning to go on the visit (Did some data come from a school database, whilst other parts have to be typed in from data capture forms?
* How good was your way of collecting and storing this information.
* How good was your method of contacting parents/guardians to inform them of specific details about the visit?
* How well did it keep a record of which students had paid the full amount that they owed for the visit by the deadline date?
* How easy was it to remind parents/guardians of any student who has not paid in full and how much remained to be paid?
* How easy is it to generate lists to use both before and during the visit?
