Year 9 Autumn Term: Presenting & Processing Information for an International Audience
Autumn 1: Consider changing your password - is it secure? Clear your workarea (P Drive), but keep your best 2 example of work for every program used.

Autumn 2: Introduction to processing Lists (What lists can you think of Shopping, Address, CDs, Mammals....) What lists do you know of on the Internet?
Using a Form in Access to Search... Read How to then download the Questions(1) and databases Cars Cds Holidays Castles to your Documents (P Drive) When these databases are started you must change the security warning > Options to "enable this content". Attempt as many questions as you can. Now try these additional Questions(2).

^Now watch the Access 2007 (1a) lessons that cover creating a Query and copying to Word in Access...
Create your own queries for all of the Questions (2) above.

^Watch the next 2 lessons. You can now download a third set of Questions(3), you will need these extra databases ClothesHire Placenames Cities Food and Weather to there is also a How to file for you to read.

There are numerous uses for (relational) databases in real life whether on the Internet (Tesco / ebay / Amazon / Maplin / Ebuyer) or not (Payroll, Stock Control, Air Traffic Control, Timetables). Make a list of any databases that use "lists" on the Internet. Social networking sites are essentially a series of databases with a website as the "front end"! Excel & Access - why both programs? Well they both enable us in varying ways to process Information in a System like way, though Access has a far greater range of useful tools, whilst Excel is used by less experienced users.

The First Assessment will be based on all of the Access work with problems similar to Questions 3, that is queries, totalling queries and export to Excel for the creation of bar charts. You will need to download the Assessment Questions and the database during the Assessment only! You may watch the lessons or read the files during the assessment though this will be at the expensive of time!

Autumn 3: Website design work ie Dreamweaver / Flash / Photoshop / Premiere Pro / Movie Maker / Soundbooth / Audition.

1. Preparation Planning a project Components and Learning Dreamweaver.

*** Whilst technical problems with Dreamweaver CS5 are resolved you can create 4 jpg's and store them in P:\MyWeb They should be called top (1000x100), bottom (1000x100), left (200x600), right (200,600) and can be viewed in ie with a green framework page. ***

Watch each lesson in Dreamweaver1, attempt to build the webpage exactly as shown. Near to the end it should now look like this!
Now create a website of your own choice. Place it in a seperate folder. The First file must be called index.html < all in lower case! This will then be uploaded.... See others below!

Now compile a list of the best websites from the Kenya sites A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O. Select your best 3 - Which is the worst - Why??? Add links to your Top 3 Kenya sites within your index.html. A class Survey will be carried out and factors of what makes a good site and what to avaoid will be discussed.

Improvements: You have now looked at many websites to establish what looks good / professional. Modify your own site to include what you think works well. Now look at other pupils sites to help you decide what makes a good site. Do you agree that good sites have recurring (patterns) with the layout / colours / fonts. Everything works (ie Navigation / Animation), Colours, Fonts, Sounds and Animation are used sparingly. The text and other forms of information must be of a high quality so that they inform are appropriate and accurate. It must all be pleasing on the eye. Try to follow a basic pattern in terms of layout and colour / sizes. Do not have too much variation (3 Font sizes and 4 Colours max?). Try to have no more than 2 small or one large animation per page. Have a standard area for links to other pages. Arrange the text and images into areas (via tables).

To avoid: Weird colours, Faults (spelling mistakes / Links not working / Images not appearing), lack of consistancy, too much text / images / animation / sound or too little text.

You should look at the sample site which has some good effects for you to consider and aspects which do not work - too litle text - too many animations??

Make sure you can complete all the skills in Dreamweaver1 lessons above. Your Second Assessment will be from 17 November......! The following Skills will be assessed... Use of correct filename for the Homepage, Insertion of a Table, Rows / Colums in table have been either added or deleted, Table cells coloured, Table borders removed, Text entry with some: use of Bold / Italics / larger Fonts / Colour. Insert Images, Change the Page Title that appears at the Top of the Web browser window., Create additional pages in the same style as the Homepage, Add Textual Hyperlinks between the pages and to external sites, Create a Rollover Image, The Rollover image has a hyperlink, Create and add a simple Flash Animation and/or Extend the flash animation with at least 3 layers and 2 separate moving objects.
